Just in time for Halloween, SECS presents Otto; Or, Up with Dead People.

Posted by on Oct 6, 2017 in Monthly screening |

Now that our staff has fully recovered from our first 3 day erotic film festival, we are back at work finding erotic films to show to unsuspecting Seattle audiences. For October, we are showing Bruce LaBruce’s first foray into the under appreciated genre of gay zombie porn, Otto; Or, Up with Dead People.

October 30th,  6:45 pm, Grand Illusion Cinema

OTTO; OR, UP WITH DEAD PEOPLE

Written and Directed by Bruce LaBruce

Germany/Canada, 2008

94 minutes

“One of the more disciplined entries in the LaBruce oeuvre, Otto is sexy and silly in just the right proportions, a cult item with a real heart.” – New York Times

Otto is a handsome, sensitive, neo-Goth zombie with an identity crisis. He wanders the streets of the city, never sleeping, until one day he auditions for a zombie film. The director, an eccentric bohemian, begins making a film about Otto, while simultaneously shooting a film about a gay zombie revolt against consumerist society. As the final, orgiastic scene of the film is being shot, Otto struggles to access the human emotions buried beneath his zombie exterior, including memories of his ex-boyfriend, Rudolf.

Toying with genre conventions, Bruce LaBruce combines different media, including a humorous film-within-the-film, while creating a new, sexy, hyper-politicized zombie mythology in OTTO; OR; UP WITH DEAD PEOPLE. Bruce LaBruce is a writer, filmmaker, and photographer hailing from Toronto, Canada. He helped launch the so-called Homocore or Queercore movement with the production of homo punk fanzines and Super 8 movies. Many of LaBruce’s films have become cult favs including HUSTLER WHITE and THE RASPBERRY REICH. Often using pornography as a starting point to examine sexual politics and homosexual radicalism, LaBruce’s films push boundaries and genres. His most recent films include REFUGEE’S WELCOME and THE MISANDRISTS.

**No one under 18 will be admitted**

And if you need more convincing, here is the curiously totally un-explicit trailer. Yes, this is an adult film with plenty of plot and character development.

Final monthly film event before SECS Fest!

Posted by on Aug 22, 2017 in Monthly screening |

I’m excited that we have one final event before our weekend long, erotic film festival, SECS Fest, September 8 – 10.

The Seattle Erotic Cinema Society is teaming up with Mondo Macabro to present the erotic European lesbian horror film, Girl Slaves of Morgana le Fay – 9 pm, Tuesday August 29th at our favorite theater, the Grand Illusion Cinema.

GIRL SLAVES OF MORGANA LE FAY
Director: Bruno Gantillon
France, 1971

**Co-Presented with MONDO MACABRO**

Driving in their car through France one summer, two young girls, Anna & Francoise, find themselves trapped in the kingdom of the mythic Morgana, Queen of the Witches.

Ever since Merlin taught her his skills centuries ago, Morgana has gone on living by obtaining the souls of the young women who pass through her kingdom. In exchange, she gives the captives who agree to her pact eternal youth and beauty. Those who refuse her grow old and ugly in the dungeons of her castle.

A classic of softcore erotic horror, GIRL SLAVES OF MORGANA LE FAY is beautifully shot. Beware the magical enrapturement – Morgana does not take well to refusal.

*No one under 18 admitted*
Grand Illusion’s box office open 30 minutes before showtime

Also, will be able to sell Seattle Erotic Cinema Society memberships and festival passes at the event next Tuesday. And unlike the Grand Illusion, we will be able to accept credit cards.

July Announcements & The Wild Search

Posted by on Jul 17, 2017 in Monthly screening, News |

The first bit of exciting news is that we have a film scheduled for July. PinkLabel.tv is co-presenting the innovative and very funny queer/lesbian porn flick, The Wild Search. As always, it will be at the Grand Illusion Cinema, 9pm – Thursday July 27th. $9 (cash only). As always, this is an adults only event; 18 and over.

The Wild Search
Shine Louise Houston /2017, USA
61 Minutes, Digital
The Seattle Erotic Cinema Society & PinkLabel.TV present
THE WILD SEARCH is a tour-de-force of queer women and genderqueer sex, the ultimate pomo-homo-porno. Hilariously staged as a documentary within a documentary, the film is director Shine Louise Houston’s answer to the age-old question: What do lesbians do in bed?
The basic premise is clever and used to very funny effect. A documentary film crew follows around another documentary film crew as they attempt to film the mating habits of San Francisco lesbians. So THE WILD SEARCH is a (fake) documentary about a (fake) documentary about real (and perceived) lesbians… Follow all that? Imagine one of those National Geographic programs, with cameras watching lions from the distance, only instead of lions, they´re watching lesbians. The fundamental joke is that the people having sex don´t notice the camera crew in their apartment or in the bar, and there´s a really funny bit of business with a “decoy lesbian,” a mannequin dressed up and sent out to attract the natives.  It´s a very funny mockumentary, but there´s nothing mock about the sex. Don´t miss it.
2007 Feminist Porn Awards Winner, “Best Trans Sex Scene”
2008 Cinekink NYC Official Selection
“Shine Louise Houston, who comes at her work from the perspective of a queer woman of color, says that ‘The sex is the compelling story,’ but nevertheless adds ‘Showing different gender identities, sexual proclivities, different body types, skin colors — that’s all on the agenda.'” – Nikko Snyder, Bitch Magazine

Also, we will be launching our membership program on July 27th. You will be able to purchase memberships in person at the screening of The Wild Search. We plan to be capable to accepting membership fees via credit card. You can read all about memberships under the Support tab.

Our most exciting news is that we’ve made the final selections for the launch of our annual erotic film festival, SECS FEST 2017. There will be at least 4 features, 2 shorts programs, and 2 archival films. Our website will contain all of the information on the films and how tickets and passes may be purchased once we’ve finalized the programs.

A night of very old erotic movies, on 16mm film

A night of very old erotic movies, on 16mm film

Posted by on Mar 29, 2017 in Monthly screening, Uncategorized |

Thanks to all who attend our movie nights. Tuesday March 28 was truly a special evening for those curious about the long history of sexuality in movies. SECS partnered with Spencer Sundell of the Sprocket Society and Lisa Petrucci of Something Weird to explore some early examples of erotic film.

And the audience did get an authentic film experience. As the majority of the program was films from the 1920s and film is an ephemeral medium, there were technical difficulties as one of the films had become too degraded to project. But such is life when working with old 16mm films, but we did get a glimpse of Uncle Si and his magical television before the film failed.

We also viewed a great example of a stag film, i.e. the short, usually silent pornographic films produced illegally and exhibited in private settings to all male audiences. We also had a very early animated film, but most of the early erotic films were non-explicit and were produced by Cine-Art Productions. Likely under the guise of being “art films”, these films were likely sold on 16mm to the home market, which began to emerge in the late 1920s. Although, it is also possible that they were played in coin operated peep show booths.

We also were able to show some later animated films from the 1970s and even a Walt Disney sex-education film.

Thanks again to all that attended. We will do this again in a month.
